Today I opened another business venture, this time to help businesses make their websites work better.

"Work better" covers a lot of ground, sure. But after toying with the idea for over a year it seems like a good time to put my technical knowledge of search engine marketing and conversion to good use.

The final push was when I met some local business owners last week who had established websites that were making money..yet one had a site where every page had the same page title. Another had no idea that meta descriptions were a key sales tool - they had none.

Basic stuff.

I realized then that even though I spend my time in forums with other geeks and experts in online marketing there were plenty of people who just didn't have the time - or desire - to learn all this. But they did have the ability to hire someone to help them.

So, duh.. I bought a domain and threw a site up. It's at www.HelpYourSite.com and I'm going to focus first on local businesses in Austin, TX and surrounding area. That way I can meet with them regularly, in person, and I think provide a better level of service.

Wish me luck!

Resist Attack is all about keeping your world safe

http://www.shawthing.com/Blogs/Personal/Resist-Attack-Is-All-About-Keeping-Your-World-Safe

http://www.shawthing.com/Blogs/Personal/Resist-Attack-Is-All-About-Keeping-Your-World-Safe

http://www.shawthing.com/viewpage.aspx?contentname=Resist-Attack-Is-All-About-Keeping-Your-World-Safe#feedback

Sat, 24 Oct 2009 01:33:43 GMT

Resist Attack is all about keeping your world safe

My latest website is www.ResistAttack.com - a site dedicated to educating people about how to keep themselves and their families safe, and sell them the products to do it.

Obvious products like stun guns and pepper sprays, but also hidden surveillance cameras too - even dummy cameras. There are some related products too, like hand held metal detectors that are popular with security firms, police forces and prison authorities. We have sold quite a few of those already.

Open since June, there is a long way to go, but i'm patient and know what I'm doing so in a year or two it'll be another successful website closer to retirement :)

But it is set in the late fifties, in rural Georgia, as a small biker gang stops on the way to Daytona to "hear them howl". It is period perfect.

The atmosphere of the movie is thick, and with rockabilly musician Robert Gordon co-starring in the movie and writing the soundtrack most hot rodders will love it. This is not some sugary movie like Hot Rod; be prepared for a dark movie that nonetheless still makes you wish you were one of the gang..

I see that you can still buy it at Amazon.

Hot Rod Deluxe magazine

http://www.shawthing.com/Blogs/Cars/Hot-Rod-Deluxe-Magazine

http://www.shawthing.com/Blogs/Cars/Hot-Rod-Deluxe-Magazine

http://www.shawthing.com/viewpage.aspx?contentname=Hot-Rod-Deluxe-Magazine#feedback

Mon, 17 Dec 2007 11:34:41 GMT

Hot Rod Deluxe magazine

I had a great time on Sunday meeting others from the HAMB forum for breakfast. Brett (GreenMtnBoy) arranged it and was surprised when 20 people showed up at the Skillet in Roswell. One of my old haunts when I lived in Roswell, a great place for real Southern cooking!

You should read the thread about the meeting, but here's a pic of yours truly admiring Dave's (dvanecek's) bike..

Do you know what present I'm looking forward to most this year?

The Electroline Diaries

Laurent Bagnard spent some time with the Burbank Choppers (where our very own Keith Weesner is a member) and documented his stay in this great new book. I can't wait.

Perhaps I could even persuade them to let me sell them here..

Crazy woodpeckers!

http://www.shawthing.com/Blogs/Personal/Crazy-Woodpeckers

http://www.shawthing.com/Blogs/Personal/Crazy-Woodpeckers

http://www.shawthing.com/viewpage.aspx?contentname=Crazy-Woodpeckers#feedback

Wed, 07 Nov 2007 14:23:28 GMT

Crazy woodpeckers!

They were carving them out of palm trees with chainsaws, then tidying them up with more precise tools before going over them with a blowtorch!

It was pretty cool to watch and they had a great selection - up to 8 feet high.

But all this is beside the point. Yesterday I noticed that some crazy woodpecker has been "having a go" at the tiki! Those holes in the forehead weren't there when we bought it!

Simple paint and trim

http://www.shawthing.com/Blogs/Cars/The-Tiki-Wagon/Simple-Paint-And-Trim

http://www.shawthing.com/Blogs/Cars/The-Tiki-Wagon/Simple-Paint-And-Trim

http://www.shawthing.com/viewpage.aspx?contentname=Simple-Paint-And-Trim#feedback

Tue, 06 Nov 2007 17:04:35 GMT

Simple paint and trim

Last weekend I finally got the fixed wheels back on the car (they fitted, yeah!), dropped the body on and rolled it outside!

For the first time I can see how the chop looks, how the rollcage looks in the car and how the car will sit over the wheels.

I'm really pleased.

It's not fitted of course, I just rested the body on the rollcage, and jacked it up a little at the back with a piece of 2x4. I think the small rake is about right, what do you think?

The front end is sitting a bit high in these pics due to poor fitment, so the front wheels will be covered an inch or so more.

I'm so glad I went for the Mopar Police wheels, not the usual big billet!!
